Week six!
Woohoo blog week 6! This was a pretty good week- super fun, super chill, super awesome. School was good, all my classes are picking up and we are starting learn and have homework and get in the groove of being in class. I am loving my history of Spain and history of art in Spain classes, they are so much fun. Monday evening I watched the sunset at a lookout in the Albaicín which is probably my favorite thing to do. On Tuesday Brenna, Anda and I went to see a movie in spanish at the movie theater. We saw a movie called El 47 that just won I think 5 Goya awards and it was really good. It also only cost €4 so I will definitely be back there to see more movies in spanish. On Wednesday Brenna and I went to the jazz cafe and got some yummy milkshakes and later that night I went with Begoña and one of her friends to have tapas. On Thursday Anda and I got churros and chocolate and then we walked to a soccer field where some people played soccer and then some of us just hung out and watched. I also had a delicious seafood soup for lunch on Thursday. That night we went back to the jazz cafe with a bigger group for milkshakes and then to a bar for karaoke night which was so fun, Cobb sang friends in low places. On Friday the whole AIFS group met up for a weekend trip to Gibraltar, Sevilla, and Cordoba which was so fun. We drove from Granada to Gibraltar Friday morning and then we spent the afternoon there before heading to Sevilla. Gibraltar was awesome because technically it is the UK, so we went to another country- we had to go through customs and everything. We walked around and explored for awhile and then took a bus tour of the city where we saw an old lighthouse, some caves, some monkeys, Africa and much more. It was so cool, I loved it. When we arrived in Sevilla we ate dinner at the hotel and then walked around the city a little bit before stopping for some fun drinks and playing cards. In Saturday we toured the city in a bus and then stopped at the cathedral and some palaces of the old kings and queens. We saw the plaza de españa which was so beautiful. The palaces were huge and beautiful and had these really pretty gardens all around. The cathedral was huge and stunning and there were stain glass windows from the 1460s. The altar was so tall and gorgeous and it was all gold. Christopher Columbus was buried in the church, so we saw his grave inside too. Attached to the church was a bell tower which a view of the whole city, so we climbed up that (25 stores, 35 ramps, 17 stairs) and got to see a stunning view of Sevilla. After that was free time so we got lunch, I had some squid, and then we walked all over the city. We ended up in a park where we stayed for awhile and then back at plaza de España for sunset. Abby, Gracie and I decided to ride bikes back to the hotel which was definitely an adventure, i probably wouldn't recommend that or do it again myself. That night we went out and got pizza which we ate at a park and that was fun. Sunday morning we woke up and got on the bus to head to Cordoba. When we got there we walked around for a while exploring some of the city and then we all met back up for a tour. We saw an old synagogue and an old church and the old Jewish neighborhood and some other pretty cool things. My favorite part for sure was the mezquita-catedral de córdoba, it is a mosque that was built on top of a visigothic church that was then taken over by Catholics and part of it was turned into a cathedral. It is so stunning and so interesting the way that the catholic altar and the Arabic architecture and the mihrab was all blended together. That was probably the highlight of my weekend, I had been really looking forward to seeing that and it was just as cool and I imagined. After the tour we had some more free time and now we are back on the bus headed back to Granada. Overall it was a pretty great and pretty fun week. Miss you guys so much!!
